Procurement Jobs in Calgary

As with most jobs available with Vista, our procurement jobs are located in Calgary, Alberta, either at our head office or a nearby satellite office.

Buyer
Main Duties and Competencies
The buyer is responsible for performing procurement activities to ensure the timely purchase of materials and equipment to meet project requirements. Duties will include:
- Working within a project team environment, potentially on multiple projects
- Ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement while adhering to client requirements and proper procurement practices
- Maintaining status reports
- Preparing, issuing and evaluating standard procurement documents including bid lists, request for quotation and commercial bid evaluations
- Purchasing electrical, instrumentation, structural steel and piping commodity materials and equipment
- Executing appropriate bidding strategies
- Creating and issuing purchase orders for materials and equipment
- Assisting in the negotiation of progress payments
- Developing and managing vendor/contractor relationships
- Assisting with expediting, as required
- Performing other duties as requested
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Clerical experience in a related function
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Problem-solving and decision making skills
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
Preferred
- Post-secondary certification or equivalent
- More than two (2) years of purchasing experience
Expeditor
Main Duties and Competencies
The expeditor is responsible for planning and performing expediting activities to ensure the timely delivery of documentation, materials, and equipment to meet project requirements. Duties will include:
- Working within a project team environment, potentially on multiple projects
- Proactively performing expediting activities to ensure the delivery of equipment, materials, services and related documentation
- Developing and maintaining status reports
- Attending and potentially managing purchase order kick-off meetings
- Attending local shop expediting visits, as required
- Closing purchase orders
- Communicating with suppliers to resolve issues affecting a purchase order
- Attending status meetings with suppliers
- Reviewing material and service invoices for accuracy
- Coordinating transportation and logistics, as required
- Performing other duties as requested
Requirements
- High-school diploma or equivalent
- Clerical experience in a related function
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Problem-solving and decision making skills
- Ability to adapt in a changing environment
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
Preferred
- Two (2) years of expediting experience in engineering, procurement, construction or construction environment

Senior Buyer
Main Duties and Competencies
The senior buyer is responsible for planning and performing procurement activities to ensure the timely purchase of materials, services, and equipment to meet project requirements. Duties will include:
- Working within a project team environment, potentially on multiple projects
- Ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement while adhering to client requirements and proper procurement practices
- Developing and maintaining status reports
- Assisting with the preparation of procurement strategy documents
- Preparing, issuing and evaluating standard procurement documents including bid lists, requests for quotation/proposal and commercial bid evaluations
- Purchasing complex engineered equipment and services as well as electrical, instrumentation, structural steel, and piping commodity materials
- Developing and executing appropriate bidding strategies
- Creating and issuing purchase orders for materials and services
- Negotiating commercial terms including but not limited to progress payments and terms and conditions
- Attending status meetings with clients, project management and suppliers
- Developing and managing vendor/contractor relationships
- Understanding the interfaces between procurement and non-procurement disciplines and ensuring appropriate procurement processes and procedures are followed
- Assisting with expediting, as required
- Performing other duties as requested
Requirements
- Seven (7) years of purchasing experience
- High-school diploma or equivalent
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Problem-solving and decision making skills
- Ability to adapt in a changing environment
- Ability to work without supervision
Preferred
- Experience in contracts
- Post-secondary certification or equivalent
- Five (5) years of purchasing experience in an engineering, procurement, construction environment
Senior Expeditor
Main Duties and Competencies
The senior expeditor is responsible for planning and performing expediting activities to ensure the timely delivery of documentation, materials and equipment to meet project requirements. Key duties include:
- Working within a project team environment, potentially on multiple projects
- Proactively performing expediting activities to ensure the delivery of equipment, materials, services and related documentation
- Developing and maintaining status reports
- Leading purchase order kick-off meetings
- Shop expediting purchase orders, as required
- Initiating the close-out of purchase orders
- Communicating with suppliers to resolve issues affecting a purchase order
- Attending status meetings with clients, project management and suppliers
- Mentoring, supporting and guiding staff
- Assisting the procurement lead in the development or improvement of corporate work processes and procedures
- Performing other duties as requested
Requirements
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years procurement experience with a minimum of five (5) years of expediting experience in engineering, procurement, construction environment
- Excellent organizational and communication skills

- Ability to work without supervision

Procurement Lead
Main Duties and Competencies
The procurement lead is responsible for planning and performing procurement activities to ensure the timely purchase of materials, services, and equipment to meet project requirements. Duties will include:
- Working within a project team environment, potentially on multiple projects
- Enforcing timely and cost-effective procurement while adhering to client requirements and proper procurement practices
- Developing and maintaining status reports
- Developing procurement plan and strategy documents
- Reviewing and evaluating standard procurement documents including bid lists, requests for quotation/proposal and commercial bid evaluations
- Overseeing the purchase of complex engineered equipment and services as well as electrical, instrumentation, structural steel, and piping commodity materials
- Overseeing the negotiation of commercial terms including but not limited to progress payments and terms and conditions
- Attending status meetings with clients, project management and suppliers
- Developing man-hour estimates, resource plans, schedules, and relevant procurement procedures
- Periodically reviewing departmental processes, procedures and standards, identifying areas of improvement, deficiencies and taking the necessary corrective action to maintain quality
- Planning, scheduling and managing responsibilities, objectives and project milestones for the team
- Managing the performance of the team, including mentoring and coaching direct reports
- Providing input to, and participating in, Human Resources activities, including recruitment, terminations, and discipline
- Performing other duties as requested
Requirements
- More than ten (10) years of procurement experience with a minimum of six (6) years of procurement experience, at a supervisory level, in an engineering, procurement, construction environment
- Knowledge of contracts
- Post-secondary certification or equivalent experience
