As with most jobs available with Vista, our project management jobs are located in Calgary, Alberta, either at our head office or a nearby satellite office. We hire a few different positions within the project management discipline.

Project Manager
Main Duties and Competencies
The project manager (PM) is responsible for managing the overall engineering deliverables for an assigned project, including budgeting and scheduling. Project management activities include estimation, planning/scheduling, progress reporting, and coordination with various disciplines. The PM must understand the overall direction, priority, and schedules to execute the project and work with various discipline leads to deliver successful solutions to the client. Duties will include:
- Preparing project plans, including the project execution plans (PEP) and design basis memorandums (DBM)
- Managing project budgets
- Managing manpower schedules for engineering deliverables
- Ensuring the quality of drawings, models and other design reviews
- Overseeing construction work packages (CWPs), including bills of materials, isometrics, scope, layout, instrumentation lists, and specialty items lists
- Producing scopes of work for civil, piping, skids and pipe rack modules among others
- Coordinating CWPs, trends, scope changes, design change notices (DCN) and field change notice (FCN)
- Managing all action items to ensure they are completed on schedule
- Overseeing the change management process and ensuring its effective implementation
- Contributing to and monitoring project KPIs, earned value and controls reporting
- Performing other duties as requested
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Five (5) years of progressive experience in engineering and design
- Knowledge of engineering terms, design requirements, processes, and document types
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team including process, mechanical, civil-structural, electrical, instrumentation and CAD support
- Understanding of project controls, reporting, and KPIs
- Strategic managerial skills and experience
- Ability to meet safety requirements to attend site visits
Preferred
- PMP certification
- Experience managing several mid to major/large-capital heavy oil (SAGD/CSS) projects throughout the full lifecycle
- Eng. registration with APEGA
- Engineering or applied science degree
Project Engineer
Main Duties and Competencies
Project engineers will work with various disciplines to ensure all engineering activities are accomplished. Duties will include:
- Directing and coordinating the activities of engineering and design groups assigned to a project
- Planning, scheduling and estimating design engineering effort on projects from the completion of project design to the issuance of all deliverables
- Providing status reports and communicating ongoing issues and plans with the project manager
- Interpreting project specifications and scope of all engineering disciplines
- Reviewing and approving designs and vendor drawings to ensure conformity with project specifications, company practices, and good engineering practice
- Supervising complex engineering tasks to execute the project
- Developing a scope of work for a specific project deliverable (e.g., civil, piping, skids, and pipe rack modules among others)
- Coordinating development of construction work packages (CWP)
- Coordinating management of change documents (e.g., change notices, trends, scope changes)
- Coordinating model reviews and other design reviews
- Preparing project plans (project execution plan, design basis memorandums, budgets, manpower, and schedules) for engineering deliverables
- Approving all project technical documentation such as specifications, flow diagram, CWPs and plot plans
- Assuring compliance of engineering effort to project schedule, control estimate and company procedures
- Maintaining quality control and quality assurance on projects
- Assigning and review work of subcontractor project engineering staff
- Ensuring plans, instructions, standards and work process are followed
- Preparing and update engineering control documents
- Monitoring design changes and contract extras
- Acting as the main point of contact with the client
- Performing other duties as requested
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or applied science
- Ability to meet safety requirements to attend site visits
- Two (2) years of experience in engineering and design in the oil & gas industry
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team including process, mechanical, civil-structural, electrical, instrumentation and CAD support
Preferred
- Experience in at least one major/large-cap project lifecycle
- Experience in conflict management
- Five (5) years of experience in engineering and design in heavy oil/SAGD
- Eng. registration with APEGA
Project Coordinator
Main Duties and Competencies
The project coordinator’s primary role is to leverage the team’s effectiveness by coordinating administrative and financial details so that project managers are free to focus on exceptional service and technical excellence. Duties will include:
- Coordinating management of change activities (scope changes, trends, DCNs)
- Maintaining action item lists from project meetings and PM direction
- Following up on action items with responsible parties
- Coordinating and maintaining risk registers
- Participating in schedule review meetings
- Reviewing and preparing status reports
- Monitoring schedule progress and contributing to earned value reporting
- Preparing PM documentation (e.g., DBM, PEP, RACI chart, reports)
- Providing general support for all project management activities
- Performing other duties as requested
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to meet safety requirements to attend site visits
- Advanced Microsoft Office software skills
- Excellent command of the English language (both written and verbal)
- Proactive in anticipating the needs of internal and external clients
- Independence and self-direction
- Able to quickly develop a rapport with staff and clients
- Detail orientation and good organizational skills
Preferred
- Five (5) years related experience in the oil and gas industry
- Knowledge of engineering terms and document types
- Proven understanding of how to read and interpret a process and instrumentation diagram
- Post-secondary education, particularly in project management
